Class Consciousness Before Class
|
In the eighteenth century, British sailors demonstrated a sense of solidarity that preceded the complete emergence of class in England. Through an analysis of a broadside ballad and a political declaration, we can identify a strong unity through work and in action among these early modern seamen that looks like the class consciousness of today’s labor movements.
